💡 Tip of the Week: Reduce Governance Noise to Improve Flow
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned while applying SAFe is that organizations often unintentionally create too much coordination overhead in the name of alignment.
My advice is simple: take a closer look at how much time teams spend in meetings versus solving real problems.
In one organization, teams were buried in status calls, governance reviews, PI Planning follow-ups, ART Syncs, Scrum of Scrums, and other recurring ceremonies. While each meeting had good intentions, the overall system created unnecessary friction and slowed teams down.
By simplifying governance structures and reducing duplicate coordination activities, we were able to:
Reduce meeting time significantly
Improve collaboration quality
Create more space for teams to focus on delivery and innovation
Strengthen alignment without overwhelming people
One thing this experience reinforced for me is that SAFe should help teams collaborate and make decisions faster, not create more operational noise.
Sometimes improving flow is not about adding something new. It is about removing what no longer adds value.
